Agriculture and its associated industry segments represent nearly 12% of Kentucky’s total economic activity and approximately 15% of Kentucky jobs.3 As one of Kentucky’s largest industries, it remains vitally important to every community and region in the state. However, the focus of Kentucky agriculture varies greatly from community to community and region to region. It is very important that regions and communities have an understanding of the types and locations of agricultural enterprises in their area and recognize their contribution to economic development. To address these issues, it is vital for agricultural leadership organizations across the state to take a more vested interest in the community and regional planning.
